sk3wl?

So I might not stay in Paris after all. I have way more credits left to complete than I thought. If I effectively take a semester off, then I won't graduate on time unless I take summer courses. Bah. I registered for AU classes today just in case I come back to the States for next semester, just so I won't be fucked over. Anyway, my schedule sucks. Observe:

12:45 - 2:00 pm: Social Forces that Shaped America
3:35 - 4:50 pm: Survey of British Lit

short update.

I missed class on Wednesday and walked across the entire city, passing by the Louvre and Notre Dame to take covert pictures of Asian tourists as I chuckled to myself.
My French cousin Jade rules! I re-bonded with her and was pleased to discover that she has no qualms with drinking until sunrise either.
I spent the weekend in Dublin with Mr. Santorella, where we complained about the beer prices but drank a lot of it anyway, ate curry cheese fries (best invention ever???), were shocked to discover that no attractive people exist there (on average we saw one attractive person per hour in a city of 1.1 million people...ABYSMAL), and had a better night's sleep in the airport than the second night's hostel, where we legitimately feared for our lives.

Pictures later!

The weather here sucks. But everything else is great.

This )is where I'm going to school.

I chilled with some famous people ) the other day and found the greatest dive bar ever ) right around the corner from my house. Happy hour is from 4 pm until 2 am and drinks range between 1.50 and 3 euros. Unheard of!

The French apparently have a good sense of humor. )

I had the best excuse for being late to class this morning.

THERE WAS A FUCKING BIRD IN MY BATHROOM.

It was freaking out! I didn't know what to do so I just ran back to my room. When I came out it was hangin' out in the hallway. It somehow found its way back into the bathroom, so I carefully opened the window real wide and closed the door, making sure to attach a note that warned housemates: "BEWARE. THERE IS A BIRD INSIDE. NO JOKE."

In other news, classes are dumb and I can't wait to be in Paris next semester.

I am so unbelievably upset/irritated that I have not gotten my books yet. I try to save money, and I end up causing myself a great deal of distress. First "it takes 48 hours for orders to go through" and then "your order didn't go through at all." UGH. If American University were tangibly personified, I would sure as hell disembowel him/her and eat his/her innards.

GOOD ONE, SWEDEN

In my painfully boring World of Islam class, I stumbled across this headline on the website of Sweden's most popular newspaper Svenska Dagbladet:

Hjärtsjuk avled vid skiftbyte

Ambulanspersonal i Dalarna avbröt en akuttransport vid skiftbytet varpå den hjärtsjuke patienten avled. "Anmärkningsvärt", säger Socialstyrelsen till SvD.se som nu riktar skarp kritik mot landstinget.

Rough translation:
Heart-sick patient dies during shift change

Ambulance personnel in the Dalarna region interrupted an emergency transport to execute a shift change, during which time the heart-sick patient died. "Unbelievable," says The National Board of Health and Welfare to SvD.se, who is now directing sharp criticisms toward the county council.

It's sad that I read this and my first thought was, "typical!"

It's bizarre

Lately my internal clock (is that what it's called?) has been intensely accurate; starting from sometime last week, I've been waking up a few minutes before my alarm. On weekends, waking up before noon is usually impossible for me, but on Sunday, when I wanted to be wake up by 10 AM to be productive, I did so-- and I had even forgotten to set an alarm the night before. This morning I overslept but nevertheless managed to wake up half an hour before class. Weird! I wonder what caused this.

The piece of paper in the Dav with the stray glove taped on and text underneath reading:
"Dear Adam Smith,
Your invisible hand has lost its glove, and it's cold outside."
made me ROFL.

I'm toying with the idea of making this public again.

In other news, I currently have no Internet connection on my laptop, which I could have fixed without too much difficulty; however, I instead opted to impose an Indefinite Internet Fast of sorts on myself. The first few days were uncomfortable, but I have since grown accustomed to it. I've been reading significantly more, and my general level of productivity has probably increased threefold. Nevertheless, as soon as I'm assigned a research paper, I'll have to end this exercise in self-control and consult a computer technician to restore my computer to its former glory. Ah, ephemerality.
